New York Day 2

Grand Central Station

Empire State
New York Public Library

The High Line

Our first stop on Day 2 was Grand Central Station, although buzzing with everyday commuters and tourists alike the station's beautiful architecture built in 1913, was what had me in awe. My favorite part of the building being the elaborately detailed astronomical ceiling.

Next we walked down the block to the The New York Public Library built in 1911. Upon arrival we found out that the Rose Main Reading Room was closed which that later turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When roaming through the library we were able to find charming little rooms where rare books were hidden and true scholars studying. Although we were not allowed to take pictures, the rooms were beautiful a page out of days gone by, on this you will have to take my word! For those Sex and The City fans the setting for Carrie's wedding where she was infamously stood up by Mr. Big.

We then made our way to the renowned Empire State Building. The only thing I have to say, is that if you don't want to go up the Empire State because it is too touristy you should rethink you decision.  Despite the tourists and long waits  the stellar views of the city are definitely something you won't want to miss.

Finally, the High Line, originally part of a rail line unused since 1980 it has since been converted into an elevated park and green space a beautiful place to look out over the city streets, check out the vendors, grab a bite and a drink.

New York Day 1

Central Park

Madison Ave
Bel Ami

As a gift for my birthday this year, my mom and I took a five day trip to New York City.  The first place we visited  was the Guggenheim Museum, not only to look at beautiful art, but also to to look at this world famous building, built by Frank Lloyd Wright.

After the museum we walked through Central Park, which happened to be right across the street. I made sure we stopped by The Loeb Boathouse and the Bethesda Terrace. When finding our way out of the park we walked through The Mall which is made up of a series of American elms. Although  busy with tourists and people walking through, it is nonetheless a lovely place to sit in the shade and read a book.

During our walk down Madison Ave we found a cafe called Bel Ami. The food and desserts were delicious with a great variety and for those vegetarians like myself, there are options for you too! Not to mention their macaroons were delectable, my favorite being the Salted Caramel.

Make sure to check in again for Day 2 of New York City.
