Sikhism in the Year 2015

Today, I was planning to post a April Favorites, but then a came across the latest post (the picture below) from "Humans of New York" featuring Sikhs.

“She’s a very easy child. I thank God for her every day.” (Humans Of New York)

This image sparked a feeling of happiness. From a young age, I wasn't used to seeing Sikhs on TV, online or on any platform for that matter. Although having strong roots and beliefs are important, as a young child it is also important to look up to people, who are more or less like you. Growing up in predominately white neighborhoods and white schools, I didn't  and still don't have many Sikh friends therefore, I find it necessary that Sikh youth see, and be surrounded by Sikh influences. Therefore seeing these last few post by "Humans of New York" has inspired me to share how far the Sikh community has come and to share the Sikh influences and voices of 2015 (in no particular order).

1. Waris Ahluwalia

Designer, model and actor, Waris Ahluwalia.

His company, House of Waris has been worn by Rihanna, Samantha Barks and Solange Knowles. He has also been in movies and television shows such as The Carrie Diaries and The Grand Budapest Hotel. However, he was greatly recognized for his Gap ad where he was featured in their "Make Love" campaign.

2. Rupi Kaur

Poetess and spoken word preformer, Rupi Kaur.

A personal role model,  poetess Rupi Kaur has recently released a book called Milk and Honey which features a collection of her poetry.  Her words are beautiful yet, there is more to why she is someone who inspires me. Through her poetry, she talks about everything from love to sexual abuse. She is a force to reckoned with, and not even Instagram would reckon with her.

3. Jasmeet Singh

Youtuber, Viner and all around funny guy, Jasmeet Singh.

JusReign, as he is more commonly known as, has half a million subscribers on Youtube and one million subscribers on Vine.  He also has second channel called JusVlogs where he uploads videos of his day to day life. This is the guy to watch for a good laugh.

4. Neelam Gill

Model, Neelman Gill.

At the age of 18, Neelam Gill was the first Indian model to be cast in a Burberry campaign, this being only her first job as a model. She has walked in Kanye West for Adidas, Hunter and Burberry. Can't wait to see more from her.

Coachella 2015

Although I do enjoy good music and the atmosphere of music festivals, my favorite part is, you guessed it, the fashion. Since it is the first weekend of Coachella, I thought I would share with you all some of my favorite looks thus far.
