New York Day 1

Central Park

Madison Ave
Bel Ami

As a gift for my birthday this year, my mom and I took a five day trip to New York City.  The first place we visited  was the Guggenheim Museum, not only to look at beautiful art, but also to to look at this world famous building, built by Frank Lloyd Wright.

After the museum we walked through Central Park, which happened to be right across the street. I made sure we stopped by The Loeb Boathouse and the Bethesda Terrace. When finding our way out of the park we walked through The Mall which is made up of a series of American elms. Although  busy with tourists and people walking through, it is nonetheless a lovely place to sit in the shade and read a book.

During our walk down Madison Ave we found a cafe called Bel Ami. The food and desserts were delicious with a great variety and for those vegetarians like myself, there are options for you too! Not to mention their macaroons were delectable, my favorite being the Salted Caramel.

Make sure to check in again for Day 2 of New York City.

A Trip to San Francisco

Tout Sweet

On the way out of lunch, we had to make a sneaky dessert stop to satisfy the sweet tooth. We came across this cute little shop called Tout Sweet. It was delicious and had a wide variety ( I went for the Vanilla Bean Macaroon, you can never go wrong with a macaroon).

Yes, this is what you think it is, something you only dream about. A banana split. No, it isn't a knock off banana split that you can get at Dairy Queen, but the real deal.
During the usual adventures in a hotel, we came across a fire escape. So of course we climbed it.

 Chinatown

I was born in San Jose, and lived there until the ripe old age of 8. With a mom who loves "The City" and the drive being about 45 minutes, San Francisco was a popular weekend get a way. Therefore, we cut out a few touristy things such as Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and Alcatraz. But if you're visiting San Francisco for the first time I would highly suggest doing these touristy stops.

If you are one of the hipster types or want to see the city like a local, it is an adventure in itself. Something I love to do is take a bike ride through the streets. It is a great way to see any city. Sure you can set up a plan, or go with a tour group, but it's way more memorable to just rent a bike and be spontaneous.

Of course one cannot leave any city without popping into a few shops. Union Square is the perfect destination for shopping without the mall experience. With its people buzzing and the sun shinning it's a ideal shopping location. If the heat gets to be too much, hit up the Westfield San Francisco Centre where there are numerous stores. And if you are more into vintage shopping Valencia St and the famous Haight Ashbury have plenty vintage stores.

San Francisco is a beautiful city and a must see city to add to your list of travel destinations.

Let me know what adventures you've been up to this summer!
